5 Tips on Practicing Self-Care This Holiday Season

As 2022 comes to a close, Penmarc enters its busiest time of the year!

Our partners at The Container Store are holding their annual Elfa sale, which began December 7th and will run through February 12th. We are hoping to see record volume this year!

While great for business, all that volume is a lot of work! And after 2-3 months of being the busiest that we’ve been over the last six months, it can be exhausting!

To help prevent us from overworking our bodies and minds during our busy season, we wanted to share some reminders and tips for taking care of yourselves during this time.

Get plenty of rest

There are countless advantages to ensuring the mind and body are well-rested! For one, it gives you a chance to recharge, which allows you to do it again the next day! This is especially important as installations can be physically demanding.

A good night’s sleep helps provide mental clarity, which leads to better decision-making.

Quality rest is also a proven mood booster! It can be hard to get excited and cheerful about a customer’s closet when you’re running low on sleep! So make sure to get plenty of shuteye so you can go to work every morning being your best self.

Stay hydrated

There are numerous benefits to staying hydrated. Drinking plenty of water will help regulate body temperature and keep your joints more flexible, which are both enormous advantages when considering the labor that goes into any installation.

Staying hydrated also helps deliver nutrients to your cells, which in turn, strengthens your immune system and prevents cold and flu infections.

Backtracking to our first tip, staying hydrated improves your sleep quality and mood!

Exercise and stretch regularly

Having a regular exercise routine, as well as stretching before every installation, will help prevent potential injury on the job, as well as improve your stamina. Even something as simple as walking a mile a day will strengthen your muscles, improve your cardiovascular health, and promote mental clarity.

Exercising is yet another proven mood booster! Aerobic exercise produces endorphins — or “feel good” chemicals — in the brain. It also increases your heart rate, which triggers norepinephrine, a chemical that may help the brain deal with stress more effectively.

Another plus is that regular exercise makes it easier to manage your weight, allowing you to indulge in all the great food that comes with the holidays!

Maintain a healthy diet

While there is nothing wrong with allowing yourself to enjoy the holiday season, a proper diet directly correlates to having a healthy physical and mental lifestyle.

Nutrients are fuel for your body and mind. Having a proper diet regulates blood sugar and provides energy that will get you even through the most physically demanding days.

Do the things you enjoy

The holiday season is considered one of, if not THE most stressful time of the year. Between your regular workload and the extra activities/chores that come with the holidays, it’s easy to find yourself lost or overwhelmed.

Even during the busiest seasons, don’t forget to give yourself that extra time to unwind and do the things you enjoy.

Spend some time with family and friends, take some me-time to relax, listen to your favorite song, indulge in your hobbies, and take that nap!

Care

You’ll be amazed at how refreshed you’ll feel after giving yourself time to practice self-care. Just remember that at the end of every day, the most important thing is YOU.

Stay safe, and happy holidays!
